How to Develop Film (in a bathroom)

Want to learn how to develop your own B/W film? This is the class for you! Don’t have a darkroom at home? No worries, we got you covered!

Learn the tips and tricks from a photographer with about 40 years of darkroom experience, and the best part? You can do it right in your own bathroom at home, once you’re in on a few secrets.

We’ll show you the basic steps, what you need to get started, and a bunch of the tricks of getting good, consistent processing free of dust and damage. On top of that, we’ll teach you ways to do stuff that you just aren’t going to see on YouTube. Heck, we can even teach you how to mix up your own secret developer formula from the raw ingredients! Once you’ve developed your film, then you can use our scanners to work with the photos in Photoshop…

This is a three-hour class with hands-on work (in the dark). It’s limited to 6 people.

What you’ll need:

  • Bring a roll of exposed film or two.
  • Bring your film camera.
  • Have some film you’ve tried to process, but had problems?  Bring it, maybe we can tell you what went wrong!

Instructor: Ted Dillard

“Casual environment. Hands-on from beginning to end. Lots of tips to enhance the process. Most importantly, for me, was the workshop had a flow (i.e. didn’t jump around)”

Though I had processed film in the past, I KNOW there is always something I can learn. The idea of processing at home, on my own though daunting seems less so after the clear reasoning and information on the importance of consistency in the process.”

“I have been given a new sense of motivation and that film camera is back out of storage with a new excitement… (and added new equipment and supplies!) Thank you for the kick start back!”
