Saturday, March 21st, 10AM to Noon
at The Brickyard Collaborative, 71 Linden St., #105C, Lynn, MA
Instructor: Sarah Lancaster
Ages 15+
Do you want to make new things quickly but are afraid of sewing yourself to your new shirt? Not sure what all those lines on the pattern you bought at the store mean? Want to recreate the cut of your favorite skirt but not sure how? Come learn basic machine sewing and pattern navigation skills, and bring a reusable tote bag home to boot!
You’ll learn how to thread multiple sewing machines (and how to figure out threading other machines you haven’t met yet), choosing thread and needles, sewing straight and zig zag lines, and sewing machine terms/troubleshooting.
You’ll also learn how to read a store bought pattern and how to make a pattern yourself from an existing bag. Once your pattern is made or chosen, you’ll get to use fabric you brought or we provide to make a quick, sturdy tote bag for everyday use. You’ll have support every step of the way!
Instructor: Sarah Lancaster
What you’ll need:
- Bring any ideas for designs
- Got a pattern to make? Bring it, we’ll try to get going!
About the instructor: Sarah is a third generation home sewer who likes to mend, alter, and make clothes in her spare time like her mother and grandmother before her. She was taught by her mother, patient friends, and a lot of YouTube videos.
She enjoys making her own patterns based on clothes she already likes, and hacking patterns made by others. She is good at making mistakes and learning from them. She strongly recommends making muslins before using your good fabric! $65 (Adults), $45 (Lynn Residents), $25 (Students)
