MANY NEWS!

Well, yes, it’s been a little cray-zee. You can pretty much assume that if you don’t hear much from us here, we’re running around like chickens without heads… Here’s the lowdown –

As you probably know, we moved in on February 1st, and within a week had about a dozen full members, and a great group of people they are – an amazing range of talent, and everybody’s rolling up their sleeves and pitching in. Don’t worry, we still have a few spots open.

We also had an amazing honor – we were nominated by the Lynn Chamber of Commerce for “Non-Profit of the Year” (we knew that, but we couldn’t make it to the awards dinner…) and on Feb. 27, at their annual meeting, WE WON! (we had NO IDEA THAT was going to happen…) Our friend Glenn Morris accepted for us (we were hard at work planning our member move-in for the coming weekend), and we picked up our awards the other day. More on that to come.

The big news is our Grand Opening and Open House! On March 17, from noon to 4PM, join us for celebrating all the hard work and persistence of our Board and crew, and enjoy a tour, meet some members, staff and our Board, and maybe even learn a little Raspberry Pi while you’re at it (and maybe eat some raspberry pie too). We’ll have light refreshments and beverages – no RSVP necessary, just stop by.

We’re also hosting the work of Lynn artist Michael Aghahowa – our very first show, and an amazing talent. Michael will be there to meet you and answer your questions.

Where? The Brickyard Collaborative, 71 Linden Street, #105C, Lynn, MA 01905

When? Sunday, March 17, 12-4PM

See you there!

Moving In Day!

It’s FINALLY TIME! One Feb. 1, we get the keys and the MOVE BEGINS!

Imagine – all that stuff in storage right now getting set up and used! An actual space! Actual members (yes, we already have members who’ve signed up and are ready to roll!) We’d wax all sentimental about where we were a year ago and that stuff, but honestly, there’s too much work to be done (and fun to be had!)

Want to help out? We have no idea what the plan is at this point, but we’re pretty sure it involves trucks, machines and pizza… shoot us a note, but the loose plan is to start the process on Saturday morning, the 2nd, and see what happens.

You know how to reach us – right here, for email, phone or text. As soon as we have a plan, we’ll get it out there.

Double Your Donation – Last Chance!

This is your LAST CHANCE to double your donation to The Brickyard Collaborative through the MassDevelopment Collaborative Workspace grant!

We’re putting together our final paperwork for the grant contract, and it’s going in tomorrow. This is the last opportunity for any cash donations be be matched 100% by MassDEV, so if chipping in to the Brickyard pot has been on your “to-do” list, don’t delay, do it today!

As you’ve no-doubt seen, we now have a lease and a space – we have nearly $30,000 of equipment ready to plug in, and a move-in date of February 1st. We have members signing up, and we’re scheduling classes. We have a shopping list that includes a complete letterpress and printing studio, laser cutters, CNC machining equipment, wide-format photo printing, a full electronics and coding lab, and more. The rubber is hitting the road, after a long time and a lot of work.

Make your tax-deductible contribution here, through PayPal.

You can use any major credit card, or your PayPal account – it’s safe and secure.

As always, thanks for your support! See you soon for the BIG OPENING PARTY!

It’s TIME!

By now, you’ve probably heard the news…  The Brickyard Collaborative, the first fully equipped Makerspace on the North Shore, finally has a home!

We’ll be able to start moving in on Feb 1st, and we’re going to start having workshops and making stuff available to members almost immediately.  We’ve also got our Membership page together on the site, you can find that here: Membership

Of course, this is all still a work in progress, but here are some of the details:

What do we have?

We have a complete wood shop, metal shop, photography studio (film and digital), video and sound editing studio, automotive, motorcycle and bicycle repair shop, electronics and robotics lab, with growing facilities for rapid prototyping, printmaking, finishing, and biotech hacking, along with complete co-working facilities.  For the full list, updated frequently, see this page: Makerspace/Coworking Space

We also are hard at work putting together the list for the MassDEV Fit-Out Grant, and that will include more electronics tools, a laser cutter, letterpress equipment, a wide-format Epson printer…  fun stuff!

We’ll be located in a clean, secure, ground-floor, light industrial and warehouse facility in West Lynn, on the banks of the Saugus River, with easy access to Route I95, and ground-floor garage door and loading dock access.

Check out the membership levels, and for a very limited time we’ll be offering a 20% discount across the board.  Here’s that link again: Membership  This is a chance to get in on the ground floor, and help put together the makerspace that you want to see.

If you’re ready to jump on board, or if you want more information, let’s talk.  Shoot us an email, let’s set up a time we can get together and, after Feb 1, walk through the space and see what we’re putting together.  As soon as possible we’ll be putting an Open House together with a regular schedule for meetings, tours and introductions.

Hang on…  it’s going to be a great ride!
