I think this says it all… Thanks John!
Such an Honor…
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, we were hunkering down at a hastily called Board meeting, trying to put together our plan for the member move-in day on March 2 – only a few days away. Towards the end of the meeting, somebody got on Facebook and saw we were tagged, and congratulated by, not one, but two groups – the KIPP folks and LEO – Lynn Economic Opportunity, at the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner.
What?
It wasn’t until the next morning that we heard from a few people who’d been able to attend – we’d been nominated for, and won, the Non-Profit of the Year Award!
LEO and KIPP were also nominees, and it’s hard to describe the feeling of receiving this honor with those two organizations also in the running. “An honor…” doesn’t even begin to describe it.
We’d been invited to the dinner in January, and told we’d been nominated. We had to pass it up – we’re putting every bit of our funds and time into getting off the ground, and, though we love the Chamber’s events, we simply couldn’t make it. By the time the event rolled around, the fact is, it had dropped off our radar. Our friend and supporter, Glenn Morris, who sponsored us for the membership in the Chamber, accepted the award for us.
Thanks to the mystery person who nominated us, and to the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce for the support, and for believing in us! …and especially, thanks to LEO and KIPP for all the wonderful good work you do!
MANY NEWS!
Well, yes, it’s been a little cray-zee. You can pretty much assume that if you don’t hear much from us here, we’re running around like chickens without heads… Here’s the lowdown –
As you probably know, we moved in on February 1st, and within a week had about a dozen full members, and a great group of people they are – an amazing range of talent, and everybody’s rolling up their sleeves and pitching in. Don’t worry, we still have a few spots open.
We also had an amazing honor – we were nominated by the Lynn Chamber of Commerce for “Non-Profit of the Year” (we knew that, but we couldn’t make it to the awards dinner…) and on Feb. 27, at their annual meeting, WE WON! (we had NO IDEA THAT was going to happen…) Our friend Glenn Morris accepted for us (we were hard at work planning our member move-in for the coming weekend), and we picked up our awards the other day. More on that to come.
The big news is our Grand Opening and Open House! On March 17, from noon to 4PM, join us for celebrating all the hard work and persistence of our Board and crew, and enjoy a tour, meet some members, staff and our Board, and maybe even learn a little Raspberry Pi while you’re at it (and maybe eat some raspberry pie too). We’ll have light refreshments and beverages – no RSVP necessary, just stop by.
We’re also hosting the work of Lynn artist Michael Aghahowa – our very first show, and an amazing talent. Michael will be there to meet you and answer your questions.
Where? The Brickyard Collaborative, 71 Linden Street, #105C, Lynn, MA 01905
When? Sunday, March 17, 12-4PM
See you there!
Moving In Day!
It’s FINALLY TIME! One Feb. 1, we get the keys and the MOVE BEGINS!
Imagine – all that stuff in storage right now getting set up and used! An actual space! Actual members (yes, we already have members who’ve signed up and are ready to roll!) We’d wax all sentimental about where we were a year ago and that stuff, but honestly, there’s too much work to be done (and fun to be had!)
Want to help out? We have no idea what the plan is at this point, but we’re pretty sure it involves trucks, machines and pizza… shoot us a note, but the loose plan is to start the process on Saturday morning, the 2nd, and see what happens.
You know how to reach us – right here, for email, phone or text. As soon as we have a plan, we’ll get it out there.
